A very busy blogger

I have been the worst blogger! I feel guilty for not writing...but at the same time I've had to cut myself a little slack. I moved to a new apartment last weekend, and have spent all week in PD during the day, then stayed at school until dinnertime to work on my classroom. Needless to say, by the time I get home all I have energy for is to lay down and eat fast food at watch netflix. Well, that seems sad...
I tried to make a crockpot meal but 8 hours on high instead of 8 hours on low made for some very charred chicken. Oops. Better luck next time!

Which leads me to wonder...how do teacher bloggers "do it all" during school? I guess I will have to get my act together or this blog is going to become very barren! And we don't want that.
I can't wait to be able to show pictures of my classroom...but not until it's done. It is getting there. Slowly but surely.

I'm really excited about a few things I bought during the TpT boost sale yesterday (I impulsively made some purchases at 11pm...) But I don't regret a single one! Having more resources make me feel much more prepared. Here are the goods...

Okay, so that wasn't a rhetorical question...how do you find time for blogging (and eating regular meals?!) during the school year?

  1. My biggest suggestion to you is to learn how to set limits. Prioritize your To-Do List, and keep in mind that this is a career where your job will NEVER be done. There's AWAYS something more you need to do, and this is why I think it's important to set limits. My first year teaching, I was at school 1.5 hours early and stayed 2 hours late. Now, I would never do that (I'm more of a 30-45 minutes before and after school kinda girl). I work through my lunch period to get things done during the day. Of course, this means I'm not socializing as much at school, but I get to have a life at home!

  2. My first year, I felt like I was always at school. I came home exhausted, and my poor husband (fiance at the time) didn't get very much attention (or very many good suppers). I ran on empty a lot. Like others will likely tell you, there will always be something that you want to get done. When you get to a point where you say, "I'm done. Everything's fine with me"...it's time to choose a different profession. I feel like we should be changing constantly, as our students change. All you can do is your best. Make sure you take time for yourself or you may experience burn out, fast. Now days, I get to work about 45 minutes before I have to be there, I work during my conference period, and sometimes during my lunch. I hardly ever take things home with me, because I know that I'm likely to leave it in the car and not touch it. Home time is my time. Decide on a couple of things to accomplish each day. Get them done and take some time for yourself. :)

    P.S. When it comes to meals, I make a list at the beginning of the month of 10 or 15 things that we like to eat. I get all of the ingredients when I buy groceries. Then, when I'm rushed for time and can't think of anything to cook, I just choose something off of the list. I know that sounds tedious, but the thing that takes the most time for me is just deciding what to cook.

  3. I schedule my time. My blogging time is about an hour before I wake up my kids for school. I limit myself to that hour during the week and usually find an hour or so on the weekends. With my school work, I have to just leave it within 40 minutes after dismissal because my family needs me at home. I too work through lunch to make it happen. It's definitely not easy but this is we must do to be vikings! :) :)
